About

Brooks Camp Campground offers a truly unique wilderness camping experience in the heart of Katmai National Park, one of the premier brown bear viewing destinations in the world. Located on the shore of Naknek Lake approximately 30 air miles from King Salmon, the campground is only accessible via small floatplane or boat. The campground features an electric perimeter fence to deter bears from entering the camping area. The campground has no designated sites but accommodates up to 60 people total with 32 tent pad locations. Three covered cooking shelters are provided, each with picnic tables and fire rings. All food preparation and eating must occur in these shelters to minimize bear attractants near sleeping areas. Food and odorous items must be stored in the provided bear-resistant food cache, and fuel must be stored in designated lockers. During peak season from June 1 through September 17, full services are available including potable water, trash collection, and coin-operated showers at nearby Brooks Lodge. A seasonal camp store is also available. Vault toilets are accessible year-round. All visitors must attend a mandatory bear safety orientation upon arrival at the visitor center.

Directions

Brooks Camp is approximately 30 air miles east of King Salmon and about 290 air miles southwest of Anchorage. The campground is only accessible by small floatplane or boat.
