About

Wood River Group Overnight Area offers a dedicated group camping experience in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, 10 miles north of Ketchum, Idaho. The site sits along the scenic Big Wood River at 6,400 feet elevation, surrounded by Douglas fir, Ponderosa pine, Lodgepole pine, and aspen trees. This tent-only facility accommodates up to 40 overnight campers with a maximum of 25 vehicles. The group area features flush toilets, a gravel driveway, and full shade coverage. An amphitheater with electricity and wooden benches is a short walk from the site and hosts ranger programs. Campers should note that potable water is not available at this site. The nearby Sawtooth NRA Visitor Center, 2.5 miles away, offers drinking water and an RV dump station. The Big Wood River provides excellent fly-fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, along with popular float tubing. A self-guided nature trail near the amphitheater leads to a small cave and beaver pond. The 20-mile Harriman Trail passes nearby, offering hiking and biking with spur trails leading to alpine lakes, deep canyons, and high-country fishing spots. Easley Hot Springs is 4 miles north with a swimming pool, hot tubs, and showers.

Directions

From Ketchum, take Highway 75 north for 10 miles. Turn at the Wood River Campground sign. Stay on the main campground road for a short distance until you reach the group area parking lot on the right side of the road.
