About

Wood Lake Campground is a small, intimate Forest Service campground located in the Lewis and Clark National Forest of north central Montana, 24 miles west of Augusta on Benchmark Road 235. Situated at an elevation of 5,500 feet, this 2-acre campground offers 9 campsites in a quiet mountain setting. The campground provides vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump during the operating season. Wood Lake itself is the centerpiece of the recreation area, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and swimming in a pristine mountain lake environment. Motorboats are prohibited on the lake, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for non-motorized boating, paddling, and shoreline activities. Scenic hiking trails skirt the campground, providing access to the surrounding forest and mountain terrain. The campground is best suited for smaller RVs and trailers, with a maximum recommended trailer length of 22 feet. Campers should be prepared for bear country and follow mandatory food storage requirements, keeping all food in approved containers and out of sight.
