Wood Lake Campground
Open seasonally from late spring to early fall. First-come, first-served with no advance reservations. No potable water available on site. Mandatory bear-resistant food storage required.
About
Wood Lake Campground sits along the Rocky Mountain Front in Montana's Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, about 24 miles west of Augusta via Benchmark Road 235. The compact 2-acre campground contains 9 campsites at 5,500 feet elevation, surrounded by forested terrain with access to Wood Lake. The lake offers fishing and swimming opportunities, though motorboats are prohibited. Scenic hiking trails wind through the surrounding forest. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are available but there is no potable water on site, so campers must bring their own water supply. This is bear country with mandatory food storage requirements. All food must be kept in approved bear-resistant containers and out of sight, and removed from the area after eating. The maximum recommended trailer length is 22 feet, and camping is limited to 14 consecutive nights.
