Double Falls Campground

Open — Open year-round with no fees, but availability depends on road access. Winter snow typically makes Benchmark Road impassable. No water available on-site.

About

Double Falls Campground is a primitive, no-fee camping area located in the Rocky Mountain Range section of Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, approximately 19.5 miles west of Augusta, Montana along Benchmark Road. The campground provides a rustic mountain experience with light usage, making it ideal for campers seeking solitude in a remote forest setting. The campground offers basic amenities including vault toilets but no drinking water, so visitors must bring their own supply. As a primitive facility, there are no hookups, showers, or other developed amenities. The site experiences light use compared to more developed campgrounds in the area. This area is active bear habitat, and the Forest Service requires mandatory food storage in approved containers at all times. All food must be kept out of sight and removed from the area immediately after eating. The campground's accessibility is weather-dependent, particularly during winter months when snow can close Benchmark Road. The scenic location provides access to forest recreation opportunities including hiking and wildlife viewing in the surrounding national forest.
