South Fork Campground

About

South Fork Campground is a small, 7-site facility located 31 miles west of Augusta on Forest Road 235 in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Situated at an elevation of 5,500 feet along the South Fork drainage, the campground provides access to fishing in nearby streams and hiking trails leading into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The area experiences heavy use during the summer season. Bears frequently inhabit the area, and mandatory food storage regulations require all food and wildlife attractants to be kept in approved containers. The campground includes vault toilets and typically has drinking water available from a hand pump during the operating season. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. The remote location and proximity to wilderness make this an ideal base camp for backcountry exploration, fishing, and horseback riding. Road access determines availability, and the campground is typically closed during winter months when Forest Road 235 becomes impassable.
