About
South Fork Campground is a quiet, primitive campground nestled in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, approximately 31 miles west of Augusta via Forest Road 235. The campground features 7 sites and caters to both tent campers and equestrians with available horse corrals. Basic amenities include vault toilets, though potable water is not available on-site. The campground sits in active bear habitat within the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem. A mandatory food and wildlife attractant storage order is in effect year-round, requiring all food to be stored in approved bear-resistant containers and removed from the area after eating. Visitors should exercise caution and practice proper food storage at all times. Recreational opportunities include fishing in nearby streams, hiking, and horseback riding. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Road access determines seasonal availability, with the forest road typically impassable during winter months due to snow.
