About
Benchmark Campground sits at the gateway to the Bob Marshall Wilderness along the Rocky Mountain Front in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Located roughly 30 miles west of Augusta via Forest Road 235, this 25-site campground serves as a staging area for wilderness trips and offers a true backcountry experience. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, drinking water from a hand pump, fire rings, and picnic tables at sites. Horse corrals make this a popular destination for equestrian users heading into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Activities include horseback riding, fishing in nearby streams, and picnicking. Bears are active in this area, and mandatory food storage regulations are strictly enforced. All food must be kept in approved bear-resistant containers and removed from the area after eating. Campers should follow all posted fire danger warnings and food storage requirements.
