About

Mortimer Gulch Campground is situated close to Gibson Reservoir in the Rocky Mountain Range District of Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. With 26 campsites available, this campground serves as an excellent base for anglers targeting rainbow and cutthroat trout in Gibson Reservoir and the North Fork of the Sun River. The campground is accessed via Forest Road 108, much of which is unpaved, requiring approximately 26 miles of travel from Augusta. The campground operates seasonally from late spring through early fall and offers basic amenities including vault toilets and seasonal drinking water from a hand pump. A cement boat ramp is located about half a mile from the campground, though a 4WD vehicle is highly recommended for access. The area experiences light usage and provides a relatively remote camping experience. Bears frequently inhabit the area, and mandatory food storage in approved containers is strictly required. Campers should familiarize themselves with food storage requirements, motor vehicle use regulations, and current fire restrictions before arrival. The campground charges $15 per night for a single site with an additional $5 fee for extra vehicles. Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on the base campsite fee.

Directions

From Augusta, take Manix Street west about 4 miles, then continue west about 22 miles on Forest Road 108. Much of this road is unpaved and requires careful driving.
