About
Mortimer Gulch Campground occupies a scenic position near Gibson Reservoir in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, situated along Montana's dramatic Rocky Mountain Front. The campground offers 26 sites and serves as a base for anglers targeting rainbow and cutthroat trout in both the reservoir and the North Fork of the Sun River. The drive in requires navigating approximately 22 miles of mostly unpaved Forest Road 108 from Augusta. A 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended for accessing the cement boat ramp located about half a mile from the campground. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided but no potable water is currently available. This is bear country, and mandatory food storage requirements are in effect. All food must be kept out of sight in approved bear-resistant containers, and food should be removed from the area after eating. The campground typically operates from late spring through early fall, with exact dates varying by year depending on conditions.
Directions
From Augusta, take Manix Street west about 4 miles, then continue west approximately 22 miles on Forest Road 108. Much of this road is unpaved.
