About
Wolverine Cabin is a historic log bunkhouse located at Wolverine Lakes in the Ten Lakes Scenic Area of the Kootenai National Forest. Built in the early days for border patrol use, this small cabin now serves as a backcountry shelter maintained by dedicated volunteers. The cabin sits at approximately 6,400 feet elevation in remote mountain terrain near the Canadian border. Access to Wolverine Cabin requires a backcountry hike, typically via the Clarence Ness Trail #82 and Wolverine Lakes Trail #84. The trail passes through forest for several miles before opening up at the cabin location. The area around Wolverine Lakes offers excellent opportunities for dispersed camping, with beautiful alpine scenery and good fishing in the lakes. This is a primitive backcountry location with minimal amenities. An outhouse is located near the cabin. Visitors should be prepared for wilderness camping conditions and practice Leave No Trace principles. The Ten Lakes area is known for its rugged beauty and solitude, providing access to pristine wilderness near the Montana-Canada border.
