Swisher Lake Campground offers a secluded camping experience in the Kootenai National Forest, accessible only by foot or horseback. Located 8 miles northwest of Eureka on Forest Road 7160 (Sophie Bay Road), the campground sits at 2,512 feet elevation along the shores of Swisher Lake. The 0.42-mile access road is closed to all motorized traffic, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. The campground features four sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet and hitching rack are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must pack in their own supply. This is a pack-in, pack-out campground with no fee required. Popular with horsemen and hikers, Swisher Lake provides easy lake access for fishing and relaxation. The campground is managed from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but remains available year-round depending on weather and road conditions.

Directions

From Eureka, Montana, travel 8 miles northwest on Sophie Bay Road (Forest Road 7160). The campground access road begins at the trailhead parking area and extends 0.42 miles to the campground. All motorized vehicles are prohibited on the access road.
