Horse Camp is a small dispersed camping area designed specifically for equestrian recreation in the Tobacco Area of Kootenai National Forest, Montana. Located 12.5 air miles from the town of Fortine at elevations between 2,100 and 2,800 feet, this site caters to horseback riders exploring the surrounding forest trails. The camp offers two sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Horse-specific amenities include hitching rails, feed bins, and food storage lockers for bear-safe storage. A vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water on site. The area can accommodate trailers up to 32 feet in length. As a dispersed camping area, Horse Camp operates on a pack-it-out basis with no trash service. The site is typically open from May through September, weather permitting. The surrounding Kootenai National Forest offers extensive trail systems suited for horseback riding across varied terrain and skill levels.
