About

Wolf Creek Campground occupies a scenic stretch of Lake Sakakawea's southern shoreline in McLean County, North Dakota. Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Garrison Dam project, the campground provides 67 primitive campsites arranged in an open grassy area with most sites offering direct lake views and lakefront access. Each site includes a picnic table and grill, accommodating tents, RVs, trailers, fifth wheels, and popup campers. The campground serves as an excellent base for fishing Lake Sakakawea, which holds state records for multiple species including walleye, sauger, northern pike, muskie, and both smallmouth and largemouth bass. The lake is the only water body in North Dakota containing chinook salmon. A boat ramp with courtesy dock and fish cleaning station supports anglers, while catfishing opportunities exist below Garrison Dam just 6 miles away. Beyond fishing, the Wolf Creek Wildlife Management Area borders the campground on both sides, offering hunting access for deer, pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse, and small game during open seasons. Nearby attractions include the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery with its visitor center and aquariums, and the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge about 8 miles away.
