About
Fort Stevenson State Park occupies a scenic stretch of the northeastern shore of Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota's largest body of water. The park is located three miles south of Garrison, known as the "Walleye Capital" of North Dakota, making it a prime destination for anglers. Two marinas at Garrison Bay and de Trobriand Bay offer electric slips, gas docks, and boat rentals ranging from motorboats to kayaks and paddleboards. The campground provides 121 total sites across several loops. Premium sites feature full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections, while modern sites have electric and water. Primitive sites offer a more rustic experience at a lower cost. Group camping is available for larger parties. Park facilities include flush toilets, showers, a sewage dump station, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a swim beach. Nearly 10 miles of trails wind through the park for hiking, mountain biking, and winter activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park's Guardhouse Interpretive Center explores the area's military history, and seasonal events include Sky Fest and Frontier Military Days. Equipment rentals are available for boats, bikes, and paddlesports. Reservations can be made 95 days in advance through reservendparks.com.
Directions
