Special Weather Statement issued December 30 at 12:59AM CST by NWS Bismarck ND
An area of a wintry mix of light freezing rain and snow could impact portions of northern and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. The highest chances for a glaze of ice accumulation are along and to the north of a line from Crosby to Minot to Jamestown. The freezing rain could lead to icy spots on roads and sidewalks, and could impact the Tuesday morning commute. Allow extra time for travel and check the latest road conditions before setting out. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. The threat for freezing rain will end by late Tuesday morning.
About
Fort Stevenson State Park Campground is nestled in the bluffs along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea, three miles south of Garrison. The 549-acre park offers 160 campsites spread across multiple loops, with options including full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer, sites with electric and water only, equestrian sites, and walk-in tent sites. The park features two marinas at Garrison Bay and deTrobriand Bay, both with boat ramps, seasonal and transient slips, and fish cleaning facilities. Garrison Bay Marina operates a concession store and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park's nearly 10 miles of trails wind through diverse habitats including native prairie, ponderosa pine woodlands, wooded ravines, and shrublands. Trail options range from the 0.2-mile Eagle Ridge interpretive loop to the 2.3-mile Flicker Loop, accommodating hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Additional amenities include a swim beach, arboretum, dog park, visitor center with guardhouse interpretive center, rental equipment including boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and fat tire bikes, plus year-round special events. The park is named after an 1800s military fort that served as a supply depot in the Dakota Territory.
