About

Van Hook Campground is a Mountrail County recreational area located on the Van Hook Arm of Lake Sakakawea, seven miles east of New Town and two miles south of the junction of Highway 23 and Highway 8. The campground occupies land managed by the Mountrail County Park Commission on Corps of Engineers shoreline property. Van Hook is renowned throughout North Dakota as the walleye nursery of Sakakawea, drawing anglers from across the state for some of the best fishing the lake has to offer, particularly in spring when the ice melts. The campground provides over 100 electric RV sites along with nearly unlimited tent camping opportunities, making it suitable for weekend getaways with family and friends. The adjacent boat ramp is one of the busiest on Lake Sakakawea, offering free public access to the lake. Day use facilities are open to the public, and the campground serves both weekend visitors and seasonal campers in this thriving resort community on the lake's north shore.
