Elbowoods Campground

About
Elbowoods Campground sits within Lake Sakakawea State Park on the south shore of North Dakota's third-largest man-made reservoir. The campground offers modern sites with electric and water hookups, plus primitive camping options surrounded by miles of lakeshore with stunning views of rolling hills and towering buttes. The park is renowned for premier walleye, northern pike, and chinook salmon fishing, with deep water boat ramp access to some of the best salmon fishing on the lake. Facilities include a full-service marina with 74 slips, Lakeshore convenience store (Memorial Day through Labor Day), gas dock, pump-out service, and fish cleaning stations. The Elbowoods comfort station remains open after Labor Day while other comfort stations in the park close seasonally. Recreation opportunities include a swimming beach, multiple hiking and biking trails, picnic shelters, playgrounds, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. Pontoon and kayak rentals are available. The park marks the western terminus of the North Country National Scenic Trail, stretching 4,800 miles across eight states to Vermont. Trails wind through mature elm and ash coulees, shortgrass prairie, and along shoreline formations featuring scoria rock outcroppings and petrified wood. Sail boaters and windsurfers take advantage of strong winds on this massive 368,000-acre lake.
