Lake Sakakawea State Park Campground

Open

Open for full-service camping. Water and comfort stations operate through September 30. After October 1, campground water is shut off and the park transitions to limited services, though camping remains available year-round. Reservations accepted up to 95 days in advance.

About

Lake Sakakawea State Park occupies a prime stretch of shoreline on the south side of Lake Sakakawea, the third-largest man-made reservoir in the United States. The park provides excellent access to premier fishing waters known for walleye, northern pike, and chinook salmon, with a marina, boat ramps, and fish cleaning stations available. The campground offers a range of options: 140 modern campsites with electric and water hookups, 10 modern group campsites suitable for multiple units, and 43 primitive sites for those seeking a more rustic experience. Facilities include flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. The park also features a swim beach, two playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. Camping cabins are available in the Sanish Campground area for those wanting more shelter. A camp store operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Reservations can be made up to 95 days in advance through the North Dakota Parks reservation system.
