About
Winnie Dam Campground is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility situated at the outlet of Lake Winnibigoshish on the Mississippi River, approximately 14 miles northwest of Deer River, Minnesota. The campground offers 22 sites, all equipped with 30/50 AMP electric hookups and water. Facilities include flush toilets, showers (code required from host), drinking water, a dump station, picnic shelter, and playground. The surrounding area features a forest of mixed hardwoods and towering red pines, home to wildlife including nesting bald eagles, porcupines, black bears, and chipmunks. Wild blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries grow seasonally on the forest floor. A boat ramp provides access to the Mississippi River near the picnic shelter, with the closest Lake Winnie boat access located 1 mile northeast down Plug Hat Road. Lake Winnibigoshish spans 67,000 acres and is one of Minnesota's premier fisheries, offering excellent opportunities for walleye, perch, and musky. The lake remains mostly undeveloped and is surrounded primarily by public land, particularly the Chippewa National Forest.
