Winnie Dam Campground is a well-maintained U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility situated in the Chippewa National Forest near the historic Winnibigoshish Dam. The campground offers 22 sites, all equipped with 30/50 AMP electric and water hookups, making it suitable for RVs and trailers. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers (code required from host), drinking water, and a dump station. A picnic shelter and playground are available for family gatherings and recreation. The campground sits within a forest of mixed hardwoods and towering red pines, home to diverse wildlife including nesting bald eagles, porcupines, black bears, and chipmunks. Wild blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries grow seasonally on the forest floor. Lake Winnibigoshish, a 67,000-acre lake with 141 miles of shoreline, is one of Minnesota's premier fisheries offering excellent opportunities for walleye, perch, and musky. A boat ramp near the picnic shelter provides Mississippi River access, while the main Lake Winnie boat access is located 1 mile northeast down Plug Hat Road. The campground is located just off Itasca County Road 9, within the Leech Lake Reservation boundaries. Note that this USACE facility is different from the nearby USFS Winnie Campground. Black bears are present in the area, and proper food storage is required.

Directions

From Deer River, Minnesota, take Highway 2 west for 1 mile. Turn right on Highway 46 and go 12 miles. Turn left on Itasca County Road 9 and continue 2 miles, then turn left at signs and follow to the campground.
