Williams Narrows
The campground is currently closed for the season and reopens around May 8-9, 2026. Operating season runs through mid-September. Reservations require 4-day advance booking via Recreation.gov; after that window, sites are first-come, first-served.
Special Weather Statement issued July 21 at 9:57AM CDT by NWS Duluth MN
Due to continued dry conditions in forested areas and gusty north to northwest winds around 20 to 30 mph today, conditions will remain favorable for near-critical fire weather conditions through this afternoon. This is despite relatively higher minimum RH values expected today at 40 to 50 percent. The situation is evaluated daily by the National Weather Service and the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center. Dry and windy conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires today. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.
About
Williams Narrows Campground is located on Cut Foot Sioux Lake in the Chippewa National Forest of northern Minnesota. The campground offers 17 standard non-electric sites spread across two loops, shaded by a scenic forest of birch, oak, and pine. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Vault toilets and hand pump drinking water are available in each loop. A boat ramp and sandy swimming beach sit between the two loops. The area draws anglers targeting trophy muskie, walleye, and perch. Cut Foot Sioux Lake connects to nearby Lake Winnibigoshish, one of Minnesota's premier fisheries. Beyond fishing, visitors enjoy wildlife watching with excellent chances of spotting bald eagles, osprey, and loons. The Simpson Creek Trail and Cut Foot Sioux National Recreation Area Trail can be accessed by boating across the narrows. Campers must comply with bear safety food storage orders and should note that bundled firewood is no longer sold in Chippewa National Forest campgrounds. Firewood may be gathered from dead and downed wood on-site or purchased locally within Itasca County.
