About

Located 1.5 miles southwest of Pierce in northeast Nebraska, Willow Creek State Recreation Area draws its name from the meandering creek that feeds the Elkhorn River. The park's centerpiece is a 700-acre flood control reservoir that provides excellent fishing opportunities and water recreation. The area spans 1,633 acres of scenic countryside with a mix of wooded areas and open spaces. The main Willow Way Campground features 165 campsites with electrical hookups (both 30-amp and 50-amp service), along with numerous basic campsites for tent campers. Modern facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, and accessible amenities. Equestrian enthusiasts can take advantage of dedicated horse camping areas and an 8-mile trail system suitable for both hiking and horseback riding. An additional limestone trail provides paved pathways for biking and walking. The recreation area offers diverse activities year-round, from swimming at the sandy beach and boating on the reservoir to fishing from seven handicapped-accessible piers. Other amenities include picnic shelters, a disc golf course, and opportunities for bird watching and wildlife viewing. The park requires a Nebraska state park permit for entry.
