About
The Gavins Point Overlook Day Use Shelter sits on the south side of the Missouri River above Gavins Point Dam, offering scenic views of Lewis and Clark Lake. This is a day-use facility designed for group gatherings, family reunions, and picnics rather than overnight camping. The shelter closes at 10pm and overnight stays are not permitted. The shelter area includes nearby recreational amenities such as horseshoe pits, a sand volleyball court, and a playground, making it suitable for family events and group outings. A water-based restroom is adjacent to the shelter. Maximum occupancy is 250 people. Nearby attractions include Gavins Point Dam and historic Yankton, South Dakota. The shelter is reservable through Recreation.gov.

Take US Hwy 81 south of Yankton, SD. Go 4 miles west on NE Hwy 121.
