The Gavins Point Overlook Day Use Shelter sits on the south side of the Missouri River above Gavins Point Dam, offering spectacular views of the dam and Lewis and Clark Lake. This group shelter is available for reservation and can accommodate up to 250 people, making it ideal for large gatherings, reunions, and events. The shelter area features water-based restrooms adjacent to the main structure. Recreational amenities near the shelter include horseshoe pits, a sand volleyball court, and a playground for children. The shelter closes at 10pm daily. The site provides electric hookups for the group shelter area. The location offers convenient access to nearby attractions including Gavins Point Dam, the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, and historic Yankton, South Dakota. The facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Gavins Point Project on Lewis and Clark Lake.
