Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area encompasses Nebraska's second largest lake, a 16-mile-long Missouri River reservoir that straddles the northeast border with South Dakota. Located approximately 7 miles north of Crofton on Highway 121, the park manages over 150 campsites with 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups and more than 100 primitive campsites, all positioned along or within walking distance of the lake. The recreation area features six distinct areas on the Nebraska side, with the Weigand-Burbach area serving as a hub with asphalt camping pads, electrical services, modern cabins, a convenience store, and a full-service marina offering both seasonal and daily dock slips. The park provides comprehensive amenities including modern shower facilities, picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water spigots, and dump and fill stations. Recreation opportunities extend beyond water activities to include equestrian trails, mountain biking, hiking, cross country skiing, and snowmobile trails, particularly in the South Shore area which accommodates horse camping. The lake reaches depths of 45 feet and supports varied watercraft from sailboats to personal watercraft, with fuel available at the Weigand Marina. Modern facilities and services operate seasonally from April through October, while camping with electricity remains available throughout the year.
