About

Willow Creek Horse Camp is a well-equipped equestrian facility nestled in the Black Hills National Forest near the Black Elk Wilderness area. Recently renovated in partnership with the Backcountry Horsemen of America, all nine campsites include horse corrals, picnic tables, and fire grills. The campground features horse troughs, manure disposal areas, and a trailhead parking area to accommodate stock users. Certified weed-free feed is required for all livestock. From this campground, horseback riders and hikers can access a network of trails into the backcountry, including the scenic Willow Creek Loop and the Lost Cabin Trail with views of Black Elk Peak. The camp is situated within the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve, home to elk, deer, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. Mount Rushmore is only 6 miles away, and the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway offers 70 miles of outstanding sights nearby.

Directions

From Hill City, South Dakota, take US 16/385 south for 7 miles. Go east on State Hwy 244. The campground is located across from the Mt. Rushmore KOA.
