About

Sheridan Lake South Campground is the largest campground in the Black Hills National Forest, located on the scenic south shore of Sheridan Lake. The campground features 129 sites distributed across 5 spacious loops, with many sites offering direct access to the lake. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water from hand pumps during summer months, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. No electrical hookups are available. The campground is part of the Sheridan Lake Complex and offers excellent recreational opportunities. A boat ramp is located within the campground, and the South Beach Area is within easy walking distance. The Flume Trailhead, an 11-mile National Recreation Trail, is accessible from within the campground. Popular activities include fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in summer, with snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling available in winter. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, though some sites remain first-come, first-served. The campground operates year-round with reduced off-season rates. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and generators may only run between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Directions

From Rapid City, take Highway 16 west for 18 miles to Three Forks. Turn right (north) on Highway 385 and travel 2 miles to Calumet Road at the inlet. Turn right and travel 1 mile to the campground.
