Elk Rock State Park

About
Elk Rock State Park is situated on Lake Red Rock, Iowa's largest body of water, offering more than 50,000 acres of public land for recreation. The park features two distinct camping areas: a non-equestrian campground with both electric and non-electric sites, modern shower building, and dump station; and an equestrian campground with similar amenities plus horse stalls, hitching rails, and a 100x200 foot riding arena. The park's 13-mile multi-use trail system radiates from the equestrian campground and provides opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. A one-mile all-weather trail connects the campground to the back areas of the park. Two boat ramps near the main entrance and park office provide easy access to Lake Red Rock for boating and fishing. Anglers can target bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. An unusual rock formation near the south side of the river gives the park its name and marks an area once inhabited by Native Americans from the Archaic Culture. The campground is 100% reservable and reservations are required. Firewood sales are available May through September via self-serve operation. After-hours bank fishing is permitted between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. in designated areas.
Directions
Located east of Highway 14 on the south end of the mile-long bridge over Lake Red Rock. From Knoxville, take Highway 14 north; the park entrance is at 811 146th Avenue.
