About

White Star Campground is located at 9,200 feet elevation at the foot of Mount Elbert, Colorado's tallest peak at 14,433 feet. The campground sits on the northern shore of Twin Lakes Reservoir, Colorado's largest natural glacial lakes spanning 2,805 acres. Surrounded by fragrant ponderosa pines, the setting offers convenient access to water recreation including sailing, water skiing, and fishing for lake, rainbow, and Mackinaw trout. The campground features 67 single-family campsites spread across three loops. Sage and Valley Loops are reservable through Recreation.gov, while Ridge Loop with 16 sites operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a picnic table with lantern pole and a fire ring with grate. Vault toilets are located throughout the campground, and potable water is available via hand pump. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes directly by the campground, with the section from Halfmoon Road South to Twin Lakes open to mountain bikers. The nearby Mount Massive Wilderness encompasses 30,540 acres including Colorado's second highest peak. The Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway offers access to Independence Pass and day trips to Aspen.
