Whirlpool State Park

Open

Open year-round, dawn to dusk. No overnight camping is available; this is a day-use facility only. Pavilion reservations available through ReserveAmerica. Trail 5 (lower Whirlpool Rapids Trail south of the Flats) is currently closed due to fallen rocks and unstable ground conditions.

About

Whirlpool State Park sits along the dramatic Niagara River Gorge, offering visitors stunning views of the famous Whirlpool and the powerful rapids below. The park operates on two distinct levels: the upper street level provides multiple scenic overlooks, picnic facilities with reservable pavilions, a playground, and a seasonal gorge natural history room housed in the restroom building. The lower river level is accessible via a staircase downstream from the main park area. At the base of the gorge, hikers can trek upstream along the Whirlpool Rapids Trail past the Whirlpool itself. The park connects to the Devil's Hole Trail system for extended hiking opportunities. Fishing is available along the river. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping. Two pavilions accommodating up to 75 people each are available for reservation at $60 through ReserveAmerica. The park offers free parking and entry, operating dawn to dusk year-round, though some facilities are seasonal.
