About
Joseph Davis State Park occupies 388 acres along the banks of the lower Niagara River in Lewiston, New York, just north of Niagara Falls. Originally known as Lower Niagara State Park when it opened in 1964, the park was renamed in 1970 to honor Joseph Davis, who served as president of the Niagara Frontier State Parks Commission for 21 years. The park is renowned for its disc golf facilities, featuring "The 27," the second oldest permanent disc golf course in New York State established in 1980, and the "Lower Niagara 9" added in 2020. A complete course overhaul in 2025 brought 36 new baskets, three sets of cement tee pads at every hole, and updated signage. The park's flat terrain includes fields, woodlands, and ponds that support diverse recreational activities. Anglers can fish for largemouth bass in three stocked ponds near the park entrance or access the lower Niagara River fishing dock for various freshwater species. Nature trails wind through the park for hiking, and in winter the trails accommodate cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Four pavilions (accommodating 50-75 people) are available for reservation. This is a day-use park without overnight camping facilities.
