About

Fort Niagara State Park encompasses 504 acres along the shores of Lake Ontario and the Lower Niagara River in the Town of Porter, Niagara County. The park serves primarily as a day-use facility with diverse recreational opportunities for visitors to the Niagara region. The park features two boat launches providing access to the Lower Niagara River and Lake Ontario, making it a popular destination for boaters and anglers. During summer months, three swimming pools and a waterslide operate Thursday through Sunday. The Fort Niagara Nature Center, located adjacent to the pool complex, offers exhibits and educational programming seasonally. Woodland hiking trails wind through the park, and 18 soccer fields accommodate sports activities. Four picnic pavilions are available for reservation through ReserveAmerica, accommodating groups of 50 to 60 people. The park is adjacent to Old Fort Niagara State Historic Site, a Registered National Historic Landmark operated by the Old Fort Niagara Association. The historic site offers living-history programs year-round, a museum, and original 18th-century buildings. During winter, the park remains open for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. Waterfowl hunting is permitted in season by permit only, issued through a weekly Thursday evening draw system. Fort Niagara State Park does not provide camping facilities; visitors seeking overnight accommodations should consider Four Mile Creek State Park, located nearby in the Niagara region.
