About

Palisades Campground is a Bureau of Land Management recreation area located on the Upper Madison River in southwest Montana, approximately 25 miles south of Ennis off US Highway 287. The campground encompasses 80 acres at an elevation of 5,500 feet and offers 10 primitive camping sites along the river. The facility includes two accessible vault toilets, a campground host pad, and basic amenities including picnic tables and fire rings at each site. A separate day use area features a paved boat launch and parking area that can accommodate two-wheel drive vehicles and trailers. The Madison River is renowned for its world-class trout fishing, making this a popular destination for anglers. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Campers should note this is a primitive facility with no potable water, hookups, or trash service. Visitors must pack in all supplies and pack out all garbage. The campground is managed by the BLM Dillon Field Office and offers free day use and boat launch access, with overnight camping fees charged per site.
