AQAMT The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Gallatin, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Mineral, Missoula, Park, Powell, Ravalli, Silver Bow, Sweet Grass, Sanders, Yellowstone counties in effect until 9AM on 08/11/2026 An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near future. Elevated particulate levels from wildfire smoke As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Columbia Falls, Frenchtown, Libby and Missoula are Unhealthy. As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Billings, Dillon, Great Falls, Helena and Thompson Falls are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Butte, Cut Bank, Hamilton, Lewistown and Sleeping Giant are Moderate. When air quality is Unhealthy... West Fork Fishtrap Creek Campground occupies an open, sunny location along the meandering West Fork of Fishtrap Creek in Montana's Lolo National Forest. This free, no-fee campground provides a peaceful setting for campers seeking streamside fishing and scenic forest surroundings with light visitor traffic. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Potable water is available from a hand-pump well during much of the summer season. Vault toilets are provided. The campground operates on a first-come-first-served basis with no reservations. Horses and pack animals are not permitted at this site. Campers must follow bear safety and food storage requirements to reduce human-wildlife conflicts.
Directions
From Thompson Falls, travel 5 miles east on Highway 200. Turn left (north) onto the paved Thompson River Road (not the graveled road). Travel 15 miles north on Thompson River Road. Turn left (west) on Fishtrap Creek Road #516 for 10 miles. Turn left (south) on West Fork Fishtrap Creek Road. Campground is on the right after 0.1 mile.
