About

Sylvan Lake Campground is a primitive, free campground tucked into the mountains southeast of Libby, Montana, within Kootenai National Forest. The campground offers five sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring, set along native soil roads and parking spurs at 3,606 feet elevation. A vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground sits beside 21-acre Sylvan Lake, which provides opportunities for fishing (rainbow trout) and motorized boating at no-wake speeds per Montana FWP regulations for lakes under 35 acres. The shoreline stretches 1.24 miles around the lake. Access is via Forest Road 516 (McGinnis Meadow Road) from Highway 2, then Forest Roads 7150 and 154. This is a pack-in/pack-out site with no trash service. Pets are welcome but must be kept leashed. Food storage orders are in effect for the Kootenai National Forest to protect wildlife.

Directions

From Libby, travel south on Highway 2 to McGinnis Meadow Road (Forest Road 516). Follow Road 516 to the junction with Forest Road 7150, then continue to the junction with Forest Road 154. Follow Road 154 south approximately 1 mile to the campground.
