About

West Eagle Meadow Campground is a primitive, high-elevation campground set among towering evergreen forests across from wildflower-covered meadows in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The icy cold West Eagle Creek flows near the campsites after emerging from the Eagle Cap Wilderness, creating a scenic mountain setting for tent campers and those with small trailers. The campground features 17 sites divided between standard loop sites and walk-in tent sites, plus an adjacent horse camp at the trailhead. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water so campers must bring their own supply. The adjacent West Eagle Meadows Trailhead offers access to the Eagle Cap Wilderness, with trails leading to Echo, Traverse, Diamond, and Tombstone lakes as well as the beautiful Minam River corridor. Access requires navigating Forest Road 77, which is graveled with the last 4 miles being extremely rough and not recommended for passenger cars or trailers. This is a late-season opening area due to heavy snow accumulation at the high elevation.
