About
Two Color Guard Station is a historic Forest Service cabin nestled along the Wild and Scenic Eagle Creek in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s as crew quarters, the current structure was built in 1959. The cabin sits below the Eagle Cap Wilderness surrounded by rugged mountains, with spectacular views from the back porch overlooking a large riparian meadow extending toward the creek. The cabin comfortably accommodates up to 12 people with furnished beds, couches, table and chairs. It's equipped with propane lights, propane cook stove and oven, refrigerator, and heating stove, along with cookware, place settings, and most cooking utensils. Outside amenities include a picnic table, accessible vault toilet, and a corral for stock animals. Water is not available, so guests must bring adequate supplies for drinking, cooking, and washing. Guests must also pack out all trash. The location provides excellent access to outdoor recreation year-round. The Main Eagle Trailhead, the southern portal into the Eagle Cap Wilderness, is just 2 miles away and open to hikers and horseback riders. Eagle Creek, located 150 feet from the cabin, offers fishing for rainbow trout. In winter, Forest Road 7755 becomes part of a designated snowmobile route with groomed trails ending at Two Color Guard Station. The area is also popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The surrounding landscape features subalpine firs, whitebark pine, wildflower meadows, waterfalls, and dramatic rock formations.
