About

Wells Cabin Campground is a primitive, no-fee campground located in the remote high country of Mendocino National Forest in Tehama County. Situated at high elevation about 33 miles west of Paskenta, the campground offers beautiful mountain scenery and access to Anthony Peak Lookout, located approximately one mile away, which provides excellent views of the surrounding wilderness. The campground is not designed for RVs or trailers due to the narrow, winding forest roads and limited site development. Access requires traveling on Forest Road M-4 west from Paskenta to the junction with Road 23N69, then turning north for about 3 miles. The campground features basic amenities including picnic tables at all sites, fire rings, and vault toilets, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. This is an ideal destination for tent campers and those seeking a quiet, primitive camping experience away from crowds. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Recent improvements include new signs and fire rings throughout the campground.
