Watson Lake Campground is a small, backcountry Forest Service campground situated above Tahoe City in the North Shore region of Lake Tahoe. Located off Forest Road 16N50, approximately 10 miles west of Brockway Summit on Highway 267, this remote campground offers six designated campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground sits at an elevation of 7,759 feet and provides a quiet, rustic camping experience for those seeking a more primitive setting. The campground operates seasonally and features limited amenities, including vault toilets but no potable water or trash removal service. Campers must pack out all trash and waste. Each designated campsite includes a permanent metal fire ring where campfires are permitted when the campground is open and fire restrictions are not in effect. The campground enforces a five-day stay limit per season, and camping is only permitted in designated spots. Watson Lake Campground provides access to nearby trails including the Tahoe Rim Trail, making it a convenient base for hikers and backpackers exploring the North Shore backcountry. The remote location offers opportunities for viewing scenery, plants, and wildlife. No fees are required to camp at this site.
