About
Giant Gap Campground is located on the north shore of Sugar Pine Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, approximately 15 miles from Foresthill at an elevation of 3,600 feet. The campground sits within stands of cedar and ponderosa pine trees overlooking the 160-acre reservoir, providing a scenic setting for water-based recreation. The reservoir offers fishing, canoeing, swimming, and boating with a 10 mph speed limit. A paved, non-motorized trail circles the campground and connects to the day use area and Shirttail Creek Campground. The North Fork of the American River is nearby for additional fishing and swimming opportunities. The surrounding area features extensive hiking and off-road vehicle trails, though OHV use is not permitted within the Sugar Pine Complex itself, only in the designated staging area. Summertime temperatures are hot during the day and cool at night. The campground offers both single and double-family sites with tables and fire rings. Vault toilets and drinking water faucets are available throughout the campground.
Directions
From Interstate 80, take the Foresthill Road exit and continue east for 17 miles to Foresthill. Travel through town for about 9 miles to Forest Road 10/Sugar Pine Road.
