About
Waterbury Reservoir Remote Sites provides a true backcountry camping experience on a scenic Vermont reservoir within Mount Mansfield State Forest. The 27 primitive campsites are spread over 5 miles of shoreline and are accessible only by canoe, kayak, or motorboat from three launch points: Waterbury Dam, Blush Hill, and Moscow/Cotton Brook. Each site is waterfront or offers water views and includes a fire ring and a nearby roofed composting toilet (moldering privy). There is no potable water, so campers must pack in all drinking water. This is pack-in, pack-out camping with no trash service. Bears are active in the area, so proper food storage is essential. The reservoir offers excellent opportunities for fishing, paddling, swimming, and hiking. Day-use boat rentals are available at nearby Waterbury Center State Park for those without their own watercraft. Maximum occupancy is 6 people per site, with two sites accommodating up to 12. Reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance via vtstateparks.com or by calling the reservation center.
Directions
Access the reservoir via boat launches at Waterbury Dam (off Waterbury Dam Road), Blush Hill (off Blush Hill Road), or Moscow/Cotton Brook. From Waterbury, take Route 100 north toward Stowe. Sites are boat-in only, typically a 1-2 mile paddle from launch points.
