About
Ward Mountain Campground is a well-developed Forest Service campground in the shadow of Ward Mountain, offering 33 campsites at 7,400 feet elevation in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Located just 10 miles southwest of Ely via Highway 6, the campground provides a convenient base for exploring eastern Nevada's high desert terrain. Sites include 9 back-in RV sites, 3 pull-through RV sites, and tent-only options, with three large group sites accommodating up to 150 people.
Each site features a picnic table, campfire ring, and BBQ pedestal. The campground has vault toilets and seasonal potable water from faucets. Additional amenities include a volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and a historic amphitheater. A campground host is present during peak summer season.
The Ward Trail, a 4.8-mile motorized loop, departs directly from the campground. Nearby attractions include Comins Lake (13 miles) for fishing, Cave Lake State Park (20 miles), and the historic Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park (26 miles). ATVs and motorcycles are restricted to the main campground road only.
Directions
From Ely, Nevada, take Highway 6 south towards Tonopah for 10 miles to Murray Summit. Turn left just before the summit at the Forest Service sign for Ward Mountain Recreation Area and Campground.
