About
Wanaki Loop is part of the Norway Beach Recreation Area, located on the southern shores of Cass Lake in north central Minnesota's Chippewa National Forest. The campground features 46 sites nestled among mature red and white pine trees, with some sites offering lake views and proximity to a sandy beach. A boat ramp within the campground provides direct access to Cass Lake, which covers nearly 16,000 acres with 27 miles of forested shoreline. Cass Lake offers excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, perch and trophy muskie, along with opportunities for boating, canoeing, water skiing and swimming. Star Island, located in the middle of Cass Lake, features six miles of trails and the unique 199-acre Lake Windigo. The area includes hiking and biking trails, including the Migizi Bike Trail and Norway Beach Trail. The nearby Norway Beach Visitor Center, a monument to Civilian Conservation Corps craftsmanship with its magnificent fireplace, offers programs and displays depicting Dakota and Ojibwe heritage and the area's flora and fauna. Interpretive programs are offered on select days from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The town of Cass Lake, four miles west, provides restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities.
Directions
