About

Norway Beach Loop is part of the Norway Beach Recreation Area on the southern shores of Cass Lake in north central Minnesota's Chippewa National Forest. The campground features 55 sites situated in a forest of red and white pines, approximately 500 feet from the lake shore. Cass Lake is the largest of eight lakes that make up the Cass Lake Chain of Lakes, covering nearly 16,000 acres with 27 miles of forested shoreline and sandy beaches. The campground provides access to excellent recreational opportunities including boating, canoeing, water skiing, and swimming. Anglers fish for walleye, northern pike, perch, and trophy muskie, with a boat ramp available nearby. Star Island, located in the middle of Cass Lake, is a unique feature of the forest offering six miles of trails around the island and 199-acre Lake Windigo. Hiking and biking trails are accessible from the campground, including the Migizi Bike Trail and Norway Beach Trail. The Norway Beach Visitor Center, a historic building constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, is located within the recreation area. The center features an impressive fireplace and offers interpretive programs and displays depicting Dakota and Ojibway heritage and local flora and fauna. Special annual events include Kids Fishing Day in June, Bald Eagle Day in July, and Smokey Bear's Birthday Party in August. Interpretive programs are offered on select days from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The town of Cass Lake is 4 miles west, offering additional amenities and services.

Directions

From Cass Lake, Minnesota, take U.S. Highway 2 east for 4 miles to the Norway Beach Recreation Area. Turn left and follow the campground road until signs indicate the Norway Loop.
