Chippewa Loop is part of the Norway Beach Recreation Area, situated on the southern shores of Cass Lake in north central Minnesota. The campground is nestled among mature red and white pine trees, with some sites overlooking the scenic lake. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and parking spot, with 30-amp electric hookups available throughout the loop. Cass Lake is the largest of eight lakes in the Cass Lake Chain of Lakes, covering nearly 16,000 acres with 27 miles of forested shoreline and sandy beaches. The lake offers excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, perch, and trophy muskie, with a boat ramp nearby. Star Island, located in the middle of Cass Lake, features six miles of trails and is home to 199-acre Lake Windigo. The area provides abundant opportunities for boating, canoeing, water skiing, and swimming. The Norway Beach Visitor Center, a monument to Civilian Conservation Corps craftsmanship featuring a magnificent fireplace, offers educational programs and displays depicting Dakota and Ojibwe heritage and local flora and fauna. Special events include kids' fishing days in June, Bald Eagle Day in July, and Smokey Bear's birthday party in August. Interpretive programs run every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Hiking and biking trails including the Migizi Bike Trail and Norway Beach Trail are accessible from the campground. The town of Cass Lake, four miles west, offers restaurants, groceries, and other services.

Directions

From Cass Lake, Minnesota, take U.S. Highway 2 east for 4 miles to the Norway Beach Recreation Area. Turn left and follow the campground road until signs indicate the Chippewa Loop.
