Wanaki Campground/Boat Access
The Wanaki Boat Access has been converted to an extension of the Mi Gi Zi bike trail and is no longer an overnight camping facility. For camping on Cass Lake, use Wanaki Loop campground in the Norway Beach Recreation Area.
About
The Wanaki Boat Access was historically a boat launch facility on Cass Lake within the Chippewa National Forest's Norway Beach Recreation Area. This site has since been converted to an extension of the Mi Gi Zi (Migizi) bike trail, a 19-mile paved loop around Pike Bay named for the Ojibwe word for bald eagle. No overnight camping is available at the former Wanaki Boat Access location. Campers seeking lakeside sites with boat access should consider Wanaki Loop campground nearby, which offers developed campsites with flush toilets, showers, and access to Cass Lake via the recreation area's boat ramps.
Directions
From Cass Lake, Minnesota, take U.S. Highway 2 east approximately 4 miles to Norway Beach Recreation Area.
