About

Wallace Lake Campground is a remote, high-elevation campground located on Wallace Lake in the Salmon River Mountains of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground offers 12 campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Within the campground, visitors will find vault toilets and drinking water. The lake provides fishing opportunities and features a primitive boat launch suitable for non-motorized watercraft such as canoes and rowboats. The drive to Wallace Lake Campground along Salmon River Mountain Road offers spectacular views of the Salmon River Range and deep pine forests. However, access requires traveling on unpaved forest roads that can be rough. From Salmon, the route is 3 miles north on US 93, 14 miles northwest on Forest Road 023, and 4 miles south on FR 020. FR 020 is not recommended for RVs or cars pulling trailers due to road conditions. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. This is an established campground suited for tent campers and smaller vehicles seeking a peaceful mountain lake experience in a more primitive setting. The high elevation and remote location mean the campground is only accessible seasonally, typically from summer through early fall when roads are clear of snow.
