About

Cougar Point Campground sits at 6,600 feet elevation in the Salmon River Mountains within the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground features 18 campsites nestled in a heavily timbered area of mixed coniferous forest. Short trails extend north, south, and west from the campground, offering hikers access to the surrounding backcountry. The remote location provides a peaceful camping experience for those seeking solitude in the mountains. The area is popular with big game hunters during hunting season. Campers should come prepared as there are no restrooms or potable water available on-site. Access is via Forest Road 021, approximately 12 miles west of US Highway 93. The campground is located about 17 miles from the town of Salmon, where visitors can obtain supplies and services before heading into the forest.

Directions

From Salmon, go south 5 miles on US Highway 93, then west 12 miles on Forest Road 021.
