At 643 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 12 miles southwest of North Fork, or 17 miles northwest of Salmon, moving northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph, heavy rain, and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... North Fork.

Cougar Point Campground sits at 6,600 feet elevation in the heart of the Salmon River Mountains within the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground offers 18 primitive campsites nestled in a heavily timbered setting of mixed conifers, providing a secluded mountain camping experience. This free campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit. Short hiking trails extend north, south, and west from the campground, making it a good base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. Big game hunting is permitted in season. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply as potable water is not available on site.

Directions

From Salmon, go south 5 miles on US 93 and west 12 miles on Forest Road 021.
