This is a day-use only facility; overnight camping is prohibited. Open Saturdays and Sundays only by reservation through Recreation.gov. Check-in is 8:00 AM, check-out by 8:00 PM. Gatehouse hours are 8 AM to 7 PM on weekends. Limit of 3 cars or 15 people per site.

Air Quality Alert issued July 1 at 1:34PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA

AQAFFC The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division has issued a Code Orange (Unhealthy for sensitive groups) Air Quality Alert for Atlanta for Thursday July 2. Under Code Orange conditions, the outdoor air quality is likely to be unhealthy for some people. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest. Van Pugh South Day Use Facility sits on the scenic banks of Lake Sidney Lanier in Hall County, Georgia, surrounded by dense forests of oak, hickory, and pine in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is a day-use only facility; overnight camping is prohibited. The facility offers 54 small group picnic sites available by reservation through Recreation.gov. Each site includes a picnic table, grill, and dedicated parking, with some sites featuring water and electricity hookups. Fire rings are available at designated areas. Common amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, an accessible boat ramp, and a playground. Lake Lanier spans 38,000 acres with nearly 700 miles of shoreline and over 100 small islands. The lake offers excellent boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and wakeboarding opportunities.

Directions

Take I-85 north to I-985, take Exit 8, turn left on Highway 347/Friendship Road. Turn right on McEver Road, then left on Gaines Ferry Road and follow signs to the facility.
