About

Sawnee Campground occupies a scenic lakefront location just north of Buford Dam on Lake Sidney Lanier. The campground features 44 sites with electric and water hookups positioned along the shoreline, plus 5 tent walk-in sites with hookups and 11 primitive walk-in sites without. The aqua-blue waters of Lake Lanier and the forested foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains provide an attractive backdrop for camping. Recreational opportunities include fishing, swimming at the sandy beach, and water sports on the lake such as wake boarding and kayaking. The campground has its own boat ramp for easy lake access. Other facilities include modern bathhouses with hot showers, laundry facilities, a dump station, and a playground. Alcohol is prohibited. The campground was historically managed by the Army Corps of Engineers but is now co-managed with Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, which handles day-to-day operations and reservations. The city of Cumming is nearby for supplies, dining, and additional attractions. The Westbank Overlook offers views of Buford Dam, and Sawnee Mountain Preserve provides hiking and wildlife viewing.
