The Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds in Forsyth County are being co-managed between Lake Sidney Lanier and Forsyth County Parks and Rec. About
Sawnee Campground lies just north of the Buford Dam on Lake Sidney Lanier, approximately 35 miles northeast of Atlanta. The campground offers 43 campsites with electric and water hookups, 5 tent walk-in sites with water and electric, and 11 walk-in sites without hookups. The lake is well known for its aqua-blue colored water and variety of recreational activities, attracting over 11 million visitors annually. The campground provides direct access to Lake Lanier's 38,000 surface acres and 690 miles of shoreline, ideal for wake boarding, kayaking, boating, and fishing. A sandy swimming beach, boat ramp, playground, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and dump station are available for campers. The reservoir was created in 1956 with the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River. Nearby attractions include the Westbank Overlook for dam views and Sawnee Mountain Preserve for scenic drives and wildlife spotting. The city of Cumming offers shopping, restaurants, and additional amenities. The campground is co-managed by the Army Corps of Engineers and Forsyth County Parks and Recreation.

Take US 400 north to exit 14, turn right on Highway 20 east, turn left onto Sanders Road, at first stop sign turn right on Buford Dam Road. Campground is on the left.
