About
Fairview Campground is located 13 miles north of Kernville along the Upper Kern River, a federally designated Wild and Scenic River. The campground sits at 3,500 feet elevation in an area dotted with oak and gray pine, with cottonwoods and willows lining the water's edge. The 55 paved sites are configured across three loops, with some offering views of or direct access to the river. Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Upper Kern are popular draws, and hikers have direct trail access from the south end of the campground to several foot and mountain bike trails including the 13-mile Whiskey Flat Trail, 16-mile Flynn Canyon Trail, and 4-mile Tobies Trail. The campground serves as a convenient base for day trips to Sequoia National Park, Trail of 100 Giants, and numerous sequoia groves in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground is operated by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company under a Forest Service concessionaire permit. Vault toilets and picnic tables are available. Swimming is not recommended due to strong currents, and camping within 25 feet of the water's edge is prohibited. Glass containers are not permitted in the area.
Directions
From Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east to Lake Isabella. From Lake Isabella, take Highway 155 around the west side of the lake to Kernville. From Kernville, drive north on Sierra Way/Mountain 99 for 16 miles to the campground.
