About

Horseshoe Campground sits at 10,100 feet in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, surrounded by the scenic 235,000-acre Flat Tops Wilderness. The seven campsites are spread among the trees, providing a sense of privacy and solitude that's increasingly rare at developed campgrounds. Each site includes a picnic table and fire grate. The campground serves as an excellent base for backcountry exploration. Mandall Lakes Trailhead, Smith Lake Trailhead, and Stillwater Trailhead are all located nearby on Forest Service Road 900, providing hiking access deep into the Flat Tops. Anglers will appreciate the proximity to Yamcolo Reservoir, Stillwater Reservoir, and Bear Lake, with a boat launch available at Yamcolo. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring their own drinking water. Sites accommodate trailers up to 25 feet. Payment is by exact cash or check only at the self-service kiosk; credit cards are not accepted.

Directions

From Yampa, CO, travel south/southwest on Routt County Road 7 for approximately 7 miles. The paved road turns to gravel at the Forest boundary and becomes Forest Service Road 900. Continue on FSR 900 for approximately 9 miles past Yamcolo Reservoir and Bear Lake. Horseshoe Campground is on the right side of the road.
