Horseshoe Campground is a small, quiet campground with 7 campsites situated among the trees at 10,100 feet elevation, providing a sense of privacy surrounded by views of the scenic 235,000-acre Flat Tops Wilderness. Located off Forest Service Road 900 southwest of Yampa, Colorado, this campground serves as a peaceful base camp for wilderness exploration and fishing. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire grate, and can accommodate trailers up to 25 feet in length. The campground provides vault toilets but does not have potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. Payment is cash or check only at the on-site kiosk. Fishing opportunities abound at nearby Yamcolo Reservoir (with boat launch), Stillwater Reservoir, and Bear Lake, all stocked with rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Hikers can access the Flat Tops Wilderness via nearby Mandall Lakes Trailhead, Smith Lake Trailhead, and Stillwater Trailhead. The campground is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.

Directions

From Highway 131, exit at the town of Yampa on Moffat Street (next to Sinclair gas station). Proceed through downtown Yampa. At Montgomery's General Store and Antlers Bar & Cafe, follow County Road 7 with signs towards Yamcolo Reservoir. Follow County Road 7 for 7 miles where the road turns to dirt at the Forest Boundary and becomes Forest Service Road 900. Continue past Yamcolo Reservoir and Bear Lake; the campground is on the right side of the road.
