About

Cold Springs Campground is a small, very popular campground located approximately 16.5 miles outside of Yampa, Colorado at 10,200 feet elevation with views of the Flat Tops Wilderness. This intimate campground features just 5 campsites arranged in a loop configuration, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grate. The area is known for excellent fishing and hiking opportunities. The campground provides access to the Stillwater and Smith Lake Trailheads on Forest Service Road 900. Nearby Yamcolo Reservoir offers a boat launch, and there are two other reservoirs in the area for additional fishing opportunities. Trail guides and other recreation information are available at the Yampa Ranger Station in downtown Yampa. The campground is accessed via County Road 7 from Yampa, which becomes Forest Service Road 900 at the forest boundary. The last 10 miles are on gravel road, passing Yamcolo Reservoir and Bear Lake Campground before reaching Cold Springs. Due to the high elevation and remote location, the campground operates seasonally when weather permits.

Directions

From Highway 131, exit at Yampa on Moffat Street (next to Sinclair Gas Station). Proceed through downtown Yampa to Montgomery's General Store. Follow County Road 7 for 7 miles (road turns to gravel at forest boundary, becoming Forest Service Road 900). Continue past Yamcolo Reservoir and Bear Lake until reaching Cold Springs Campground on the right, approximately 16.5 miles from Yampa.
