About
Established in 1917 as Michigan's first state park, Interlochen State Park encompasses 187 acres on the isthmus between Duck Lake and Green Lake in Grand Traverse County. The park is located just 15 miles southwest of Traverse City and shares its northern boundary with the renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts, established in 1928. The campground features 392 modern sites with electric hookups divided into north and south loops, plus 52 rustic sites along Green Lake in the 600 and 700 loops. Most sites are generously sized and shaded by mature oaks, maples, and one of the state's few remaining virgin pine stands. Many sites offer views of Duck Lake. The modern campground includes some 50-amp service sites and pull-through options. The rustic campground provides hand pump water access and vault toilets. Recreational opportunities include swimming beaches on both lakes, accessible boat launches, and excellent fishing for bass, pike, and bluegill in summer, plus ice fishing in winter. Simple Adventures operates from the beach house on Duck Lake, offering paddleboard and kayak rentals Memorial Day through Labor Day, along with food, camping supplies, firewood, and ice. The park features nature programs during summer and fall, a picnic shelter, playground, and free EV charging stations. Campers in the north loop can walk to Interlochen Center for the Arts and hear outdoor concerts during the warmer months.
