About

D.H. Day Campground occupies a prime location in the northern district of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Michigan's lower peninsula. The 81 wooded campsites are spread across Generator, Upper, and Lower loops, with sites ranging from standard and tent-only to walk-to options. Each site includes a fire ring, large picnic table, and tent pad. The campground sits just minutes from Lake Michigan's pebble beaches, making it ideal for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The multi-use Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail runs through the campground, connecting campers to over 20 miles of paved biking and hiking. The historic village of Glen Haven is a 15-minute walk away, while the Dune Climb and Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive are a short drive south. Nearby Glen Arbor offers restaurants, shops, and canoe and bicycle rentals. This is bear country; all food and scented items must be stored in sealed vehicles. The campground has vault toilets year-round, seasonal potable water from shared spigots, and a dump station at the entrance. Generator use is restricted to sites 1-31 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and camping is limited to 14 total days between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

Directions

From Empire: Drive north on M-22 for 2 miles to M-109, turn left onto M-109, continue 5.3 miles past the Scenic Drive and Dune Climb. The entrance is on the left. From Glen Arbor: Drive west on M-109 for 1.4 miles; entrance is on the right. Physical address: 8000 W. Harbor Hwy, Glen Arbor, MI 49636.
